IGN have published
an
interview with Aaron Garbut, Art Director at Rockstar North.
Also included were twelve nice (new) screenshots of GTA IV. Here are some interesting
facts from the article:
- In terms of land mass, GTA IV's Liberty City is three times as large as
GTA III's, but this time around it's much more dense and varied.
- When asked about how textures and details were done: "We took around a
quarter of a million photos and a silly amount of video footage...I have 20
DVDs of traffic flows at random junctions at various times of the day
sitting on my desk here as an example, and a few hours of footage of a night
in a Russian supper club."
Official Xbox Magazine US Review
Another nearly perfect score for Grand Theft Auto IV
after being given another amazing 9.5/10
by the OXM US.
They awarded the game for its "wonderful environment",
"deep multiplayer" and for offering over 90 missions in
single player. They say that multiplayer includes a 'Party
Mode' where you're free to switch among game types with
friends without having the game disconnect or split players
up.
It also talks about you also being able to progress
through eleven different ranks online and that it's possible
to call the other team using the game cell phone during
multiplayer. The only problem which the magazine feels the
game has is that it has too many "filler missions" which
don't develop the story at all.
Here are all the scores given by reviews thus far for
GTA4:
- Official PlayStation Magazine (UK):
10/10
- Official Xbox Magazine: 10/10
- Games Aktuell Magazine (German):
10/10
- PSM3 (France): 20/20
-
Official Xbox Magazine (US): 9.5/10
-
Empire Online: 5/5
-
Jeux Vidéo Magazine (France):
166/200 (83%)

GTA4 Ads Removed From
Chicago Buses
Rockstar Games is known for its innovative
marketing techniques to advertise Grand Theft
Auto games, and GTA 4 is no exception. As part
of the advertising Rockstar has are banners on
the sides of Chicago buses.
The complaint came from the local
Fox News Affiliate.
Apparently, people are upset that the game is being
advertised when it promotes the same kind of shootings which
have been frequently taking the lives of Chicago residents.
The Chicago Transit Authority swiftly changed its mind
about the ads, which will no longer be displayed on the bus
network.
Aaron Garbut Speaks to
Eurogamer
Aaron Garbut, Art Director at Rockstar North
spoke to Eurogamer about the development of GTA
IV.
"We never reproduce real world locations. We take
interesting or representative elements and create
something new from them. It's about taking inspiration
from real places and producing something that captures
the essence of it. We're trying to take our impression
of New York and keep it as that, an impression, not a
laboured reproduction."
