Variety Interviews Dan
Houser
Sunday, April 20th, 2008
Ben Fritz, a games reporter and reviews editor
at Variety recently sat down with Dan Houser to discuss Grand Theft Auto,
including GTA 4.
"Sure, Rockstar’s co-founder and creative VP talks very
rarely to the press, but it’s not because he’s shy or weird or
crazy or anything like that. In fact, after our approximately 90
minute talk on the record, we gabbed like fanboys about other
crap for a half hour off the record."
The article is, well, very long, in fact over 7,000 words, but
every word is worth reading. Here is an extract from the article
that may convince you to read:
"...imagine him talking in his British
accent as I present some extended
excerpts from our interview. And when I say “extended,” I mean “extended.”
This isn’t everything, but it’s a lot. Frankly, I just think everything in
here is really interesting and worth sharing. I’ve got him talking why “GTA
IV” is the first truly original game in the series, why storage capacity is
more important than console power, why Rockstar doesn’t make first person
games, why he doesn’t want to make a “GTA” movie, why he considers the
upcoming episodic content an “experiment,” what he has to say to critics of
“GTA’s” sex and violence, and why he thinks his games deserve to stand
beside movies, not other videogames (amongst many other topics)."
As always, you can discuss this news article over
at our forums.
Speaking of forums, with the release of GTA IV only about a week away we have
opened up a new

mode of GTA4. Don't forget you need to be a

'Best Game Ever Made' -
PSM3
Another perfect score for Grand Theft Auto IV
after being given an amazing 20/20 by the
French magazine PSM3. Also, the magazine
nicely dubbed GTA IV the 'Best game ever made' -
which I am sure is rightly named so.
Here are some points gathered from the article:
- The underground subway is confirmed to be usable in
IV.
- You are able to buy weapons at stores, but whether
the stores are called "Ammu-Nation" as in previous GTAs
is unknown.
- As is already known, you are able to buy clothes at
various stores in Liberty City, just like in San
Andreas. However, unlike San Andreas, when you want to
try on an item of clothing, Niko won't go back into the
changing room for a few seconds while the game loads the
textures like CJ did. The new apparel will be displayed
instantly.
- When rendering at 1080p, the game looks amazing and
the city is so detailed that you could wonder around for
hours at a time without an objective and find
interesting new things
- Pay 'n' Spray locations will not affect your wanted
level when you use them this time around, but they are
still available for repainting your vehicle.
Here are all the scores given by reviews thus far for
GTA4:
- Official PlayStation Magazine UK:
10/10
- Official Xbox Magazine: 10/10
- Games Aktuell Magazine (German):
10/10
- PSM3 (France): 20/20
